Gudjon Mar Gudjonsson is the founder and CEO of Industria, the company that is bringing the Web 2.0 experience to the television with its product offering called Zignal. Industria has Gudjon’s focus and attention.
Gudjon is a founding partner and co-owner of Northern Orbit, which specializes in innovative communication companies across Europe, working closely with Industria. Interests include a number of ventures in the field of advanced media technologies. Furthermore, as a part of the innovation activity of Northern Orbit, Gudjon is a founding partner of the following ventures.
- Velocity1, media and communications operator headquartered in London and established for the investment company Quintain. Velocity1 is using Zignal as its TV platform.
- Magnet, an Irish media and communications broadband communications operator established for Columbia Ventures Corporation. Magnet is using Zignal as its TV platform.
- Nova, an Icelandic 3G mobile operator using Zignal to run its mobile TV platform.
The driving force behind the research, development and design of many leading-edge technologies, Gudjon is the author of several granted patents. Gudjon has accumulated a wealth of board room experience over the past 20 years and currently sits on the board of several media and communication businesses.
He currently acts as a consultant for Reuters Insight Community of Experts and has acted as key consultant and advisor for several government-associated projects within the telecom and utility sectors.
An experienced entrepreneur, Gudjon has previously been involved in a number of successful ventures, including companies that have gone through successful IPOs. In 2000 he founded mobile application company Maskina, later acquired by Viva Technologies and now called Vyke. In 1999, Gudjon founded Extrada, a software company connecting consumers to digital services in the home. In 1998, he founded Islandssimi, now Vodafone Iceland, the first full-service competitor to Iceland’s state-controlled telecoms monopoly.
In 1990, at 18 years of age, Gudjon established his first international software company, OZ Communications, which is a consumer mobile messaging solutions provider, now headquartered in Montreal, Canada. OZ was acquired by Nokia in September, 2008.
Gudjon’s international experience includes three years in Silicon Valley and two years in Dublin. He currently works out of Industria’s London office, with a second base of operations in Reykjavik.
